The students are introduced to the methodology of the participating disciplines (e. g. archaeological and historical sciences, philology, etc.) by means of lectures and have the opportunity to apply them themselves under supervision during the practice part.
At the same time, the course offers an overview of the didactic applications of the science communication medium comic as well as the practical design possibilities (and challenges) of interdisciplinary cooperation.
The comic series "Asterix" is made up of both historical and contemporary references, allowing it to be decoded and understood on several levels, especially for a European readership. A differentiated reading reveals exciting details about the world of antiquity as well as about the modern perception of culture-specific traditions and mutual prejudices as well as political, technical, economic and social developments.
From various academic perspectives (e.g. ancient history, archaeologies, dialect research, German studies, Class. Philology, etc.), scientifically relevant aspects of "Asterix" will be examined in lectures. Subsequently, the students deepen their acquired methodological and content-related knowledge through guided (reading) work.
K. Brodersen (Ed.), Asterix und seine Zeit. Die große Welt des kleinen Galliers (München 2001).
J. Toorenaar, Asterix. Die fröhliche Wissenschaft (Zelhem 2012).
Further literature will be announced during the sessions.
Of course, if you are interested, you can only listen to the lectures without attending the practice part with the exam.
In order to do so, please also register for the course via the course catalog.
