A seminal postualation in current migration research is the claim that Migration research needs to be de-migratized and social analysis needs to be migratized. We will examine the developments in migration research in selected topics like transnationalism, museum and the visibility of migration and intersectionality of post-migratory society and ask whether analysis of migration really has become the analysis of the social. The course will conclude with a field trip where we can test hypotheses of migration research in the Islamic cemetery in Altach and in the Vorarlbergmuseum. Students are invited to bring their own topics and projects to class.
