Students will obtain an insight into the various research methods and tools within arts-based research. Beyond the dichotomy of art and science, they will learn to understand the creative potential of a cross-disciplinary scientific approach within art, or an artistic agenda within science.

The Open Design Studio enables participants to implement an individual complex design or art project in an open studio. In small groups, they utilize the methods and skills they acquired in the workshop. Based on the application of different methods and techniques, students deepen their expertise in visual and spatial communication.

WS “Crystallized Glaciers CollectionThe "Crystallized Glaciers Collection" workshop focuses on the implementation of the final artifacts of the VU Art, Design & Environmental Challenges; the know-how, whichwas developed in the first weeks, is converted into prototypes. The focus is on new technologies for crystal synthesis, such as new 3D printing technologies and biological / bio-chemical growth.

WS „OriboticsOribotics deals with the aesthetic, biomechanical and morphological connections between nature, origami and robotics. They find role models and applications in both the micro and the macro cosmos. In this workshop, the participants will be introduced to this multifaceted topic artistically, technically and experimentally. Various digital manufacturing processes such as 3D printing, laser cutters and vinyl cutters are used.
