summer semester 2021 | Last update: 02.02.2021 | Place course on memo listStudents know about the historical background of Islam and the basics of the Islamic belief system(s). They are able to recognize the importance of theological statements for contemporary Christian-Muslim relations and critically reflect Christian and Islamic theologumena.
The course offers an introduction to Islamic history and theology in its plurality. Themes include inter alia: Muhammad as a prophet, Quran and Sunna, Islamic law/Sharia, selected themes of Islamic theology and philosophy, basics of Christian-Muslim dialogue. One focus will be recent debates about Islam and Muslims in Europe and the compatibility of Islam and the constitutional state.
Lecture, compulsory literature, discussion.
