Students are familiar with different approaches in the social sciences. They are able to apply them to their own research projects and know how to use specific qualitative and quantitative methods. They know about the advantages and limits of these research methods and are able to understand how to interpret and criticize them. Moreover, they are able to plan, conduct, and evaluate their research projects according to scientific standards.

This workshop presents a new sociological theory on social digitalisation that is linked to a specific method for investigating digital transformations. The method is not primarily technology-based, but focuses on the social organisation of digital processing in a way that is suitable for social science analyses. Theory and method are applied to currently vibrant topics of digital transformation with the aim of stimulating and supporting student’s own research projects.

Structured group exercises to be presented and discussed in-class.

Regular at-home exercises and in-class presentations.

No preparatory basic literature, excerpts of selected readings will be made available.
