For managing human resources, knowledge about what happens in firms and in labor markets is needed. In this course, students acquire the method equipment for gaining useful knowledge for managing human resources. The course is designed to enable students developing a solid understanding of decisions in human resource research, practically examining empirical methods and communication of insights to decision-makers in firms as well as critically reflecting the learning process. 

Building on insights of action research, we first elaborate how human resource research is able to produce practically useful knowledge. Due to this insights, we focus on exploratory research designs and learning processes in the course. We adress one specific human resourcing problem of a real firm for familiarizing us with suitable methods of data collection and analysis. Furthermore, we address legal and ethical considerations.

Please note that fluent German is essential to participate in this course. All interviews/ interview analysis/ group presentation will be conducted in German. 

The course involves input by lectures, practical exercises on data collection and analysis, excursions to the cooperating firm as well as student presentations.
