After positive completion of the course, students will be able to present relevant concepts and terminology of the teaching/learning field of literacy and basic education in the field of adult education and to critically evaluate and differentiate between them. Furthermore, students can describe and apply basic methods from the field.

The course gives an insight into the pedagogical field of literacy and basic education with adults. In particular, the challenges of basic education in German as a second language in the context of the migration society will be addressed. Concepts of learning and teaching skills in German as a second language as well as in reading, writing, mathematical and digital skills and political adult education will be discussed. In particular, feminist and racism-critical methodological approaches will be discussed.

The literature will be announced at the beginning of the course.
