The overarching course goal is to acquire the ability to independently produce a short research paper on a translation-related topic of your choice. This includes the following skills:

  • Understanding of the notions of science and scientificity
  • Stating a research question
  • Drafting a research paper
  • Searching for relevant literature and critical analysis of it
  • Generating your own scientific arguments on the selected topic
  • Designing and writing a research paper
  • Oral presentation of your selected topic

Independent production of a research paper on a translation-related topic of your choice, taking into account the criteria of scientific practice. This course therefore provides hands-on practice in the skills indispensable to academic theses (e.g. Bachelor's or Master's Theses) in the field of Translation Studies.

Approach to scientific practice by the analysis of different types of articles. Students will also give oral presentations of their chosen topics and engage in group discussion as a preparation for their research papers.

Assessment is based on:

1. Mid-term test

2. Oral presentation

3. Active participation

4. Written course paper

5. Final test

A compilation of basic literature will be communicated in class. Students will be expected to independently source further literature on specific topics.

Completion of compulsory module 14.

This course is recommended for students who are at least in their 4th semester.
