You will learn how to organise your independent research about these topics with regard to specific cultural aspects and in a way which is relevant to translation. Furthermore you will learn how to present your results in front of an audience and how to present them in written form in an adequate paper.
In this course we will examine Austria, Austrian society, culture, language and literature with regard to aspects such as cultural contact, cultural transfer and cultural differences. In the summer semester 2021, we will deal with the following topic: Austria between 1804 and 1938.
Your presentations will represent the core part of our course. Furthermore, you will have to prepare different assignments individually and within the specified time (reading tasks, text analysis, reflections, preparation of questions etc.). These assignments will serve as a basis for interactive lessons (discussions! questions! active participation! ideas!). Last but not least, you will do autonomous self-study and research in order to write an adequate paper about the topic of your presentations.
You will do a presentation (30 % of your final grade) with PowerPoint/Prezzi and handout. You will hand in a written paper (70 % of your final grade) and prepare different assignments within the specified time. Furthermore, you will be asked to participate regularly and actively in class. Important dates concerning your presentation as well as your paper to be announced in the first class. You have the possibility to write your BA thesis in this course; relevant information will be given in our first lesson.
You will receive information about relevant literature or worksheets, source texts etc. (on paper or in digital version) in class or by OLAT/mail.
Positive assessment "compulsory module 4" (language courses level I first foreign language).
Before the successful completion of all courses of the STEOP-modules, students may attain a maximum of 22 ECTS credits.
