Expanded knowledge and independent application of art-historical methods on examples referred to in the lecture

The Vatican Basilica of St. Peter is the most important church building in the West. On the basis of the eventful history of construction and furnishing of the church, which now contains almost 400 statues, 44 altars, more than 20 papal tomb monuments and huge mosaic surfaces, we can trace central discourses of European art and architectural history from late antiquity to the present day.
