Expanded knowledge and independent application of art-historical methods on examples referred to in the lecture.

Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (1571-1610) is considered one of the most radical innovators in the history of art. His naturalism, provocative in his time, is today seen as a milestone of modern art. Caravaggio's oeuvre is to be presented in the main works; the topics of the presentations are intended on the one hand to make the development of the artist's style comprehensible, and on the other hand to analyse his iconographic solutions and their innovative potential, which will have to be placed against the background of the canon and tasks of early Baroque art.

Presentations and discussions, written work.

This lecture requires continuous assessment based on active class participation and written/oral presentations.

To be announced in the course.
