Developing a basic understanding and specific advanced knowledge of the lectures topic.

The discovery of sea routes to India and America led to fundamental changes in the cultural frame of reference since the end of the 15th century. It is referred to as the first globalisation. The arts were increasingly involved in an intercultural dialogue. With their objects coming from faraway places, the chambers of art of the Renaissance and the Baroque show this aspect of art history in a very instructive way, because they should reflect the whole creation in naturalia, artificialia and technica. As many artworks are stylistically hybrid, they present researchers with particular problems regarding their design as well as their iconography and the iconology of their materials. These issues will be at the centre of the lecture.
