Students will acquire knowledge of film music history. In particular they will be introduced into methods to apply concepts to analyse film music under different aspects.

The course provides a theoretical and practical introduction to the field of film music analysis and the application of concepts in the analysis of film music. Oral presentations and the term paper will enable the student to explore a topic of his/her choice in greater depth. The repertoire analysed consists primarily of film soundtracks from a wide variety of genres.

 

Introduction by the course instructor, reading and discussion of theoretical texts in class, exercises, student presentation, work assignments.

Active participation in class, oral presentations, term paper.
