summer semester 2021 | Last update: 22.04.2021 | Place course on memo listSkills in dealing with sources and presentations of the epoch of Hellenism, taking into account selected questions about power structures, the formation of power, identities and religion.
The seminar will focus on the dynamic and multifaceted world of Hellenism from the forthcoming 4th century until the 1st century BC and point out methodological problems and fundamental research questions. We are dealing with varius aspects of the Hellenistic world: i.a. prominent historical figures (from Alexander III to Cleopatra), citizen identities, elites, Hellenistic court culture, ruling representations, royal women in Hellenistic dynasties (gender studies), religious pluralism, the importance of cities.
Lecture, guided reading, discussion, presentation
Participation in discussions, oral presentations, written essays
