The aim is to provide basic knowledge about the historical conditions in the Hellenistic period (historical events, political and social structures, ways of life and identities).

The historical events in the Hellenistic period are dynamic and changeable: From Alexander's campaign to the Diadochian empire and the Roman expansion of power. Parallel to the presentation of the historical conditions of the Mediterranean world from the 4th to the 1st century BC methodological problems and fundamental research questions are pointed out.
