Controversies between historians allow deep insights into historiography. In this course we will discuss and enact debates from the nineteenth to twentyfirst centuries - touching for example the approach to sources, questions of guilt concerning wars, interpretation of the holocaust, dealing with the inheritage of Nationals Socialism as well as the position of Gender studies or New Cultural History within the field of history.
Reading and discussing theoretical texts about historical debates, discusson of arguments by enacting controversies.
Regular and active participation, preparation, presentation and enactment of debates between historians, written presentation with footnotes.
Literature will be announced in course.
