In this course the students learn to reflect about and analyse different types of primay sources (texts, objects, images). Each of these sources require from the historian a slightly different set of skills in order to analyse and interpret them faithfully. This way, the students further develop their abilities to work with primary sources. At the end, they'll write a source analysis putting the newly acquired skills to test.

Discussion and analysis of different types of primary sources in connection with consulting relevant secondary sources.

Active participation, practical exercises, discussions of central statements, writing a source analysis (ca. 5 pages).

Writing a source analysis with a thematic focus on history of science and history of technology at the end of term.

Literature will be announced at the various units of the lecture.
