The lecture focuses on one of the most fundamental concepts of physics, the description of phase transitions and its modern development, based on current research.

We aim to convey the understanding of exotic and dynamic (quantum) phase transitions and critical phenomena beyond the Landau paradigm, the renormalization group, with applications in quantum many-body systems and condensed matter physics.

The target audience are motivated students in their advanced Bachelor studies, the Masters-, or PhD-program.

critical phenomena, basics of the renormalization group, finite size scaling, critical phenomena beyond the Landau paradigm, quantum phase transitions, deconfined quantum criticality, dynamical critical phenomena.

Lecture, assessment is based on an oral examination at the end of the course.

Course examination according to § 7, statute section on "study-law regulations"

Will be discussed in the first lesson.
