The students will obtain deeper insights in practical drug discovery and development. Based on examples, they will simulate relevant and common problems and develop approaches to tackle them. The course will focus on hypothesis-driven research as well as data analysis and -integration as basis for informed decision-making.

The course will be divided into three main parts, addressing different stages in drug development:

1. We have conducted an HTS campaign – what are we going to do with the data? What are the next steps?
2. Hit-to-lead: Which chemical classes are being developed further and why?
3. Lead optimization: How can potency and pharmacokinetic properties further be improved?

• Introduction to data analysis and –visualization

• Better understanding of basic processes in drug development

• Introduction to freely available software
