During this course, the students will learn about the most important in vitro and in vivo tests that must be performed before a compound is first tested in humans.
Theoretical part concerning the existing EMA and FDA legislation regarding drug testing, theoretical aspects regarding gene and cardiac toxicity, single dose and repeated dose toxicity studies, the primary outcomes of animal testing (therapaetic index TI, no observed adverse effect level NOAEL, maximum reccomended starting dose MRSD) etc.
During this course, the students will also perform in the lab an in vitro gene toxicity assay in bacteria (AMES test).
