800711 VU Peer to Peer Education - Students become agents of climate change education: practical implementation
summer semester 2021 | Last update: 11.01.2021 | Place course on memo listDuring the wintersemester, students gained a systematic understandig of the physical processes of anthropogenic climate change, of social and ecological implications of climate change and measures to its reduction and adaptation, and resulting necessity of societal transformation.
The main aim of the lecture during the summersemester is that students actively support teachers, they convey their gained understanding to their peers or to younger people and they accompany climate weeks in high mountain regions with pupils as peers.
As mediators between schools and universities students accompany pupils in their climate or sustainability projects with their knowledge concerning didactics and content, which they acquired during the wintersemester.
Their basic understanding about climate change and sustainability as well as climate change education and education for sustainable development allows them to contribute with their competences to the practical implementation. They cooperate with pupils, as well as experts and act as mediators between them.
Problem and Project-based learning
Students will be confronted with an authentic problem about a climate change and deal with it using the same methods they later apply in the practical part of the course. New knowledge and new relevant skills are aquired in a self-responsible way. Students learn autonomously, but are provided with necessary resources.
