800903 VU Video gamES foR Skills Training (VERSA) - Cognitive Flexibility Course
summer semester 2021 | Last update: 05.05.2021 | Place course on memo listThe participants will improve their abilities to adapt to new situations and learn to think "outside the box". They learn to generate different options to solve and analyze new tasks.
The participants train their cognitive flexibility by playing the action-adventure puzzle game Portal2. In this game the player has to solve puzzles for which traditional solutions are not effective. Players must discover the underlying rules behind each puzzle.
After an introduction and coaching, the participants get access to the game. A minimum time of 12 hours playing is required, which students can plan completely free until May 31. During this entire period students will have support to solve technical and game problems.
The progress will be evaluated by standardized tests which will be answered pre- and post-training. In addition achievements within the video game are tracked and analyzed. All participants will receive a a softskill map visualizing their skills.

The VERSA project is a collaboration with the University of Rovira i Virgili (Tarragona, Spain), VU Amsterdam, and GECON (Spain) which has developed the Soft Skills Games methodology. Until WS 2022/2023 a total of 8 courses for soft skill training will be offered (Cognitive Flexibility, Creativity, Critical Thinking, Complex Problem Solving, People/Team Management, Time Management, Judgement and Decision Making, Goal Setting). Each course can be attended individually and without prerequisites.
