After completion of the course

- the students know the background and basic principles of the connection between breath, voice and articulation in order to use them as effectively as possible,

- students can warm up their voice before presentation situations,

- the students know exercises and measures to prevent or reduce intercom effort,

- the students have gained as much practical experience as possible in using their own voice and way of speaking.

Basics of voice function: short theoretical input on voice physiology and prevention of voice disorders; perception exercises on the influence of posture and body tension on breathing and voice; exercises on the "economic use" of the voice (reduction of tension in neck and jaw muscles); coordination of breathing and vocalization when speaking ("breath rhythmically adapted phonation").

Elocution technique: articulation exercises for fluency and precision; basics of the pronunciation rules of standard German pronunciation; tips and tricks for dealing with "difficult words" and foreign words.

Introduction to lecture practice: exercises for speaking in front of a group with special attention to dealing with nervousness and listener contact (speaking pace, rhetorical possibilities to start, eye contact, "open" posture, etc.).

The practical exercises are compiled from logopaedic methodology for maintaining and strengthening vocal health (including functional voice training), as well as from the speech training of acting training (including speech training according to Balser-Eberle, pronunciation rules according to Siebs, breath rhythmically adjusted phonation according to Coblenzer/Muhar).

A script with a summary of the theoretical basics as well as the exercise material is provided.

In order to put the exercises on voice and pronunciation into an immediate context and to test their practicability, space will be given for short presentations in front of the group. Depending on the students' wishes, literary texts, short prepared presentations or rhetorical exercises can be used for impromptu speeches.
