Advanced working on architectural concepts. The students can convincingly communicate their designs, present them in detail and position them within the respective theoretical or creative context.

Digital Readymades

Marcel Duchamp formulated the readymades as the result of dehumanization of the work of art. A statement against the retinal art and the role of the artist. He elevated the modern art into a conceptual level which influenced many other disciplines, including architecture. Architectural concepts as the self-referential sign, the defamiliarization of an object and the topological approach to objects can be understood through Duchamp’s manifesto.

In this course we will research his categorization of readymades and the methodology of production of each of them, looking for a new compositional approach to the design task. After that we will articulate a new definition, the digital readymades, which can trigger a new debate on the current discourse in architecture.

Course examination according to § 7, statute section on "study-law regulations".

Will be discussed in the first lesson.
