§ 9 (1) 7a. SL Grundlagen des Tourismus

The course gives an introduction to tourism studies with a regional focus on the European Alps. The aim of the coure is that students

- know the basic terms and concepts in tourism studies

- are able to gibe an overview of the history of (alpine) tourism

- know how tourism is measured and where such data can be accessed

- can outline tourism developments of the past decades on a regional, national and global level

- know the factors influencing tourism demand and are able to distinguish different segments

- know the factors influencing tourism supply and are able to structure tourism service providers and products

- know the economic, socio-cultural and ecologic impacts of tourism and are able to critically reflect these impacts

- know alternative tourism concepts and are able to critically reflect these concepts

- have a basic knowledge in tourism planning and tourism policy

- know the challenges (alpine) tourism is confronted with and are able to give an assessment how (alpine) tourism could develop in the future

Students gather the necessary experience by:

- active participation in the course

- gain deeper knowledge by studying materials and literature on one's own

- completing assignments individually and in groups

- discussion of results

written exam
