In this class, we will read and discuss texts at the intersection between epistemology and philosophy of science. We will discuss questions such as: what is the difference between understanding and the mere sense, or subjective feeling of understanding? What is ignorance? What is meta-ignorance? What is the role of ignorance in scientific progress and inquiry? What is the division of epistemic labour and why is it necessary? Is it always a bad thing to depend epistemically upon other agents for our knowledge and understanding?
