202503 VO Systematic and Fundamental Questions in Practical Philosophy (Transdisciplinary): Natural Law Ethic
winter semester 2021/2022 | Last update: 30.09.2021 | Place course on memo listThe students are going to become acquainted with basic question and possible answers in the field of practical philosophy, especially natural law ethics. They will learn to identify relevant problems within an interdisciplinary context and to critically assess solutions.
What is a good life? Is there an objective morality? What is the relationship between morality and the law? How can one justify human rights? What is the relationship between morality and religion? Do we need religious faith on order to live a truly humane life? We are going to address these and other questions. The focus will be on normative ethics but we will also approach philosophy of law and philosophy of religion. There will be particular emphasis on natural law ethics which is a lively debated topic in contemporary English speaking philosophy.
