Taking René Girard’s mimetic theory as an anthropological starting point, this lecture introduces basic concepts of Christian peace ethics. At its centre, it addresses questions related to biblical theology as well as issues from the Catholic tradition of peace ethics (just war theory, just peace, non-violence, pacifism, conscientious objection, capital punishment etc). In view of our contemporary world, it will also engage with the peace ethics of different world religions.
