ability to read and understand easy texts in ancient Ethiopic

Ancient Ethiopic (Ge’ez) is a semitic language with a very regular grammar, so that it is quite easy to be learned, especially for people with knowledge of another Semitic language. The script is more complex than in other Semitic languages, but it has the great advantage to contain all vowels. In the lecuture the script will be learned in some steps, the foundations of the grammar (especially morphology) will be laid, and a number of easy texts will we read and translated.
