Overview of the fundamental principles and methodologies of private international law (also known as “conflict of laws”)

The course will mainly focus on the Austrian International Private Law Act (IPRG) and the harmonised set of rules within the European Union, in particular the Rome I Regulation (contractual obligations), the Rome II Regulation (non-contractual obligations), the Rome III Regulation (divorce and legal separation) and the Succession Regulation.

Lecture, discussion of case law

IPR is part of the (oral and written) diploma from "civil law including IPR" or the (oral) diploma "Civil Law2"

Lurger/Melcher, Bürgerliches Recht VII - Internationales Privatrecht, 3. Aufl. 2020 - Verlag Österreich)


The content of the lecture is based on at least a basic knowledge from the other courses on Civil Law. IPR should be completed preferably after these other courses, possibly at the same time, at least not in the reverse order .

Course is taking place in the first half of semester (until the beginning of December).
