§5(1)8.b. PS International Relations - Introductory Level (2 / 5)

Students understand the principles and connections of international relations and national foreign policy, and they are able to analyse them under supervision. Students know the basic elements of classical international law and are able to reproduce them. Moreover, they acquire the ability to present the main historical developments in the state system of the 20th and 21st centuries.

This class will debate the core issues of US and Russian external relations and US-Russian bilateral relations. We will analyze the US pivot to Asia, the US web of alliances, the Syria conflict, the conflicts in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the conflict over Iran's culear programme. We will scrutinize Russian-EU energy relations, Russia's 'southern belly' challenges, Russian relations with the Asia-Pacific region.

Continuous assessment (based on regular written and/or oral contribution by participants).

Course examination according to § 7, statute section on "study-law regulations"

Will be discussed in the first lesson.
