 European Integration - Enhanced Level

Students are able to explain the functionality and differentiation of the political system of the EU. They discuss and answer questions illustrated by individual organs and institutions of internal and institutional decision-making processes and the characteristics of individual political fields.

This course is divided into two parts:

In the first couple of sessions we will review the most important theories of European Integration, in particular the Liberal Intergovernmentalism and Neofunctionalism.

The second part will be structured in a more interactive way, with students preparing, presenting and discussing the main policy crises challenging the entire European integration project: the Sovereign Debt crisis, the Schengen crisis, the Brexit and the Coronavirus crisis.

The main goal of this seminar is to enable students to discuss and analyze important challenges and opportunities in EU politics, based on a sound theoretical foundation.
