Curr. 2021 § 5 (1) 9: Students are able to identify the most important theoretical models of modern society and can describe structures and changes within the light of the distinct societal models. They recognize the explanatory power of these societal models and their limits, as well as their historical context of origin.

There exist large structural, economic, institutional, and cultural differences between European countries. Societies also display strong historical change in these characteristics. This course tries to understand these differences, that is, to describe and explain these differences from a sociological perspective. We will therefore use the macro-micro-macro model of James Coleman, which holds that macro phenomena can explain other macro phenomena via individual behavior. In the course students will apply Coleman's model to distinct themes of modern sociological research.
