408063 PS Structures and Changes in Modern Society
winter semester 2021/2022 | Last update: 20.10.2021 | Place course on memo listCurr. 2021 § 5 (1) 9: Students are able to name the most important theoretical models of contemporary society and to explain structures and changes within different society models. They recognize the possibilities and limits opened by socio-theoretical models, and they understand the dependence of society models on their respective social context of origin.
The Covid-19 pandemic has shown, among other things, that access to public space is an essential feature of social participation. But it is precisely public space and participation in it that are subject to fundamental processes of change, which we trace in this PS. First, the conceptual basis for understanding social space is worked out. Building on this, current tendencies such as the increasing economization and simultaneous securization of spaces are discussed. Empirical results on inclusion and exclusion in social spaces are discussed with a view to specific, sometimes vulnerable groups.
Text reading in self-study (creating excerpts, answering selected questions), joint text discussion in the PS (e.g. using selected passages), small presentations, team work on specific questions, creating a text analysis (content criteria are presented and discussed in the PS)
Text reading in self-study (writing of excerpts, answering of selected questions as preparation for the discussions in the PS, seminar paper (textanalysis)
