winter semester 2021/2022 | Last update: 01.04.2022 | Place course on memo listCurr. 2021 § 5 (1) 15: This module serves to gain in-depth knowledge in selected subject areas of sociology. The students specialise in one or more subject(s) and acquire in-depth knowledge in them.
This VU deals with the social contexts of the emergence and perception of crime. The subject of the course is the embeddedness of crime in political, legal, economic and cultural environments. During the term critical crime theories and market sociological approaches will be discussed. The societal production of crime, instances of social control and the social organization of illegal markets are examined in depth. Theoretical-analytical approaches are linked with empirical findings.
Preparatory reading of often English-language texts, their presentation and discussion in the plenary as well as continuation of the content and linking of the basic literature are the required.
Regular and active participation in the discussions, preparation of the basic literature in the form of short written reflections, presentation of a basic text and submission of an essay are the assessment criteria.
