This lecture deals with issues of consumption and everyday provision. It considers historical, political and macro-economic conditions for present consumption regimes as well as the social structural dimensions of consumer cultures in Europe. The lecture also provides an introduction to theoretical perspectives of socio-economics, economic and cultural sociology and the sociology of consumption. Special attention will be given to housing and consumption in the urban context, ecological transformation and the variety and change of modes of provision.
