winter semester 2021/2022 | Last update: 17.11.2021 | Place course on memo listCurr. 2021 § 5 (1) 15:
This course covers exemplary theoretical perspectives, research approaches and themes in the contemporary sociological analysis of consumption. This includes the cultural sociology of lifestyle, taste and social exclusion; the sociology of objects, designs and the analysis of artefacts; theories of practice and praxeological methodologies for the study of practices and habits; debates on 'moral economy' and the sociology of convention/(e)valuation. We combine the discussion of theoretical-methodological texts and empirical studies as well as journal analyses to deepen the understanding of different sociological perspectives on consumption and of current themes of research. The aim is to facilitate the exploration of possible research topics that relate to existing fields of study. Particular attention is given to the combination of theoretical-analytical perspective, methodological approach and research design.
