Social inequality and education

Social inequality is still a major concern of educational systems. Diversity characteristics (e.g. social background, socioeconomic Status, migration background, gender, disability  play an important role when it comes to school choices, competences and qualifications.

In this course we will start with readings of autosociobiographic books (z.B. Didier Eribon, Annie Ernaux, Edouard Louis etc.). In line with this literature we will reflect on our own educational biographies. Theories of social inequality and educational sociology will help us to deepen our understanding of educational inequalities.
