Curr. § 6 (1) 2: This seminar deals with the inter-linkage of theoretical positions and empirical research questions; theoretical positions and their resulting consequences for quantitative empirical research are discusse.

Learning Outcome of the SE:
Students are able to apply theoretical models within specific empirical research projects.

In this course we will focus on testing distinct theoretical positions on empirical research questions (i.e. hypotheses) with the use of quantitative methods of social research. Students will therefore extend their knowledge of explanatory models in the social sciences (causation, mediation, moderation), will extend their knowledge in formulating quantitative-oriented research questions and hypotheses, and will extend their knowledge of multivariate (regression) analysis. Students learn and methods of quantitative data analysis such as path analysis, decomposition, moderation, and multilevel analysis and apply these to sociological research questions with quantitative secondary data.
