winter semester 2021/2022 | Last update: 11.05.2022 | Place course on memo listThe central objective of this course is to understand the strategic management of multinational companies (MNCs). We will examine why firms decide to develop operations in foreign countries, how they do this, and how they can become successful once their operations extend across national boundaries. Students will also learn how to evaluate strategic decisions in international management from a financial perspective. Moreover, we will examine how individuals manage business activities effectively in such multinational firms, both within the confines of the value chain and by engaging a wide range of external stakeholders such as political decision-makers, NGOs and local communities.
We will cover the following topics.
- The relation of international management to economics
- Measuring and managing country risk
- Internationalization strategy
- Strategic management of multinational companies
- Valuation, assessment, and financing of international investment projects
- International management from real options and project finance perspectives
- Political strategies of multinational companies
