winter semester 2021/2022 | Last update: 28.04.2022 | Place course on memo listAbility to incorporate academic literature about a given subject critically; competence to analyze the given subject matter according to the theories and methods of current research.
Texts written in the first person singular offer space for self-expression. Their genre spectrum ranges from confessions, letters and diaries to autobiography and autofiction, whereby the line between fact and fiction is seldom clearly drawn. In addition, dealing with oneself does not only depend on the individual who writes, but also on the conditions and possibilities that a culture has in store at a certain time. With this in mind, we examine text examples from the 18th century to the present with a view to writing styles and the history of the self.
