Students receive a broad overview of current research on Eastern and South Eastern Europe. They acquire a deeper understanding of this cultural area in its present and history.

The course is characterised by interdisciplinarity. Lecturers from different academic disciplines present aspects of their research related to Eastern and South Eastern Europe. In this way, Eastern and South Eastern Europe is examined from the perspective of linguistics and literature, history, political science, sociology and art history.
