This course is designed to help students develop skills for autonomous translation-oriented language learning and text analysis. They will become accustomed to working with authentic and increasingly complex English source materials.

Working with authentic written materials, students will enhance their comprehension and production skills. In addition, they will learn how to analyse source texts through a translator's eyes, and how to use them effectively in their own translation-oriented language learning.

Classroom activities will be supplemented by several hours of guided self-study per week.

Regular assignments, an end-of-term test and a portfolio.

Course book:

Smoke, Trudy. A Writer's Workbook: A Writing Text with Readings. Cambridge Academic Writing Collection. ISBN-10: 9780521544894

All other material and assignments will be available on OLAT.

Before completing the entrance and orientation phase of studies (StEOP) students may not acquire more than 22 ECTS points overall.

Places in this course will be allocated on a centralized basis. You may not be allocated a place in your preferred group due to high demand. In such a case, you will be allocated a place in a parallel group. Please see our department’s homepage for further information.
