740301 VO Biopharmaceutics
winter semester 2021/2022 | Last update: 14.11.2022 | Place course on memo listUnderstanding the correlation between the physicochemical properties of drug and excipients, the dosage form and the route of administration on the rate and extent of drug absorption (bioavailability). Students acquire skills that are fundamental for the development of effective dosage forms and learn to link the knowledge of different pharmaceutical disciplines. A major goal of this course is to highlight the core problems and potential solutions in the development of finished dosage forms. This basic understanding is also important for professional advice in the supply of pharmaceuticals.
Role and tasks of biopharmaceutics
Fundamentals of biopharmaceutics: bioavailability and bioequivalence, drug substitution / generics, principles of mass transfer, in vitro Absorption models, physical and physicochemical properties of drugs, meaning the molecular, supramolecular and particulate properties in drug development, pharmacokinetic processes and variables, the dosage form as drug delivery system, absorption enhancement, biopharmaceutical investigation methods.
Drug application sites and ways, anatomical and physiological bases of different application sites, drug release and absorption, strategies to accelerate or delay the liberation of drugs, specific dosage forms and delivery systems, the importance of dietary factors for the application of orally administered drugs and their bioavailability, Biopharmaceutical Classification System etc.
