VO Doctrine of God and the Trinity: The Trinity as Key to the Christian Concept of God

This Lecture will enable students to:

a) demonstrate a historically informed understanding of the significance of the doctrine the trinity for the Christian concept of God

(b) give an account of the interrelation between the trinitarian doctrine of God and the Church’s self-understanding with reference to patristic, medieval and modern sources.

(c) evaluate critically a variety of Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox views concerning the nature of this doctrine.

(d) analyse and interpret key texts and sources relating to trinitarian theology

(e) develop an awareness of the spiritual significance of this doctrine for the Christian form of life in a post-confessional world.

-         Lecture and discussion. According to the current status, the lecture will be held as a face-to-face event. There will be an OLAT webpage structured according to the lecture units, which will provide comprehensive reading materials. This will permit student do deepen exemplars lecture topics and thus offer the possibility to develop focal points of interest. A recording of the lecture or the possibility of virtual participation is  possible by prior arrangement

Oral examination (possibility of a written paper after personal consultation).
