§ 5 (1) 15 Political Theory - Enhanced Level

Students understand the classic and modern concepts of political theory. They recognize meta-theoretical premises of political theory by scientific contextualization of key concepts. They can link historic and theoretical perspectives with current political questions and topics and are able to work on and explain processes of political significance.

Identity politics

The lecture starts with an assessment of the historical roots and problems of the modern concepts of identity and dignity. After that, the lecture turns to case studies of identity politics. The modern concept of identity, however, did not only lead to the negatively connoted identity politics but also to a certain understanding of human rights. The third part of the lecture assesses the global human rights politics, developed since the 1970s.
