432040 VU Understanding Business and the Economy - an Integrated Perspective
summer semester 2022 | Last update: 04.02.2022 | Place course on memo listYou shall enhance your ability to grasp economic realities in their complexity and in interaction with societal developments and, based on this, develop appropriate action strategies.
Competences like systematic, critial reading and summarizing of texts; researching and structuring on information; systemic thinking; substantial discussing and self-organized collaboration in teams will be strengthened in this course.
The actual focus is on sustainability and inequality issues.
Central for the course is the concept of "Doughnut Economics" by Kate Raworth. The elements of economics "fit" for the 21st century will be developed collectively and highlighted critically. Complementary, the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs) will be discussed in their national and global dimension. At the end of the semester, the integrated application of the knowledge gained will take place.
Because of my personal background, the course ist grounded in economics (not management) and my particular viewpoint is targeted at historical structures.
