After successfully finishing this course you should:

- Have acquired sound knowledge of methodological approaches and issues in business and management research;

- Be able to understand and critically evaluate the impact of ontological and epistemological choices on research design;

- Be able to identify the methodological approaches research publications are based on; and

- Be capable of taking a reasoned decision regarding your own methodological position in doing your PhD research.

Introduction to methodology and basic methodological issues; ontology and epistemology; selected methodological approaches prominent in business and management research; comparative discussion of methodological approaches

Short lecturer inouts; readings; in-class group work and discussion

Individual term paper.

Important notice: Different from the original planning, the course sessions before the Easter break will have to be changed to online sessions. The university has reduced the capacity of seminar rooms due to COVID-19 and there are nor rooms large enough for this seminar available. The university will review the situation and currently we are planning to go back to teaching on campus after the Easter break.

This course is recommended as beginners' course in the PhD programme.
