Knowledge of the history of lexicography of the German language and its varieties, knowledge of the different types of dictionaries and lexicons and their redactional phases. Reflexion on modern 2.0 lexicons and test of the practicability of lexicons, discussion of the online dictionaries produced by laics. Knowledge of the most important and recent studies concerning the lexicon of the German Standard language. Combine methods and knowledge of both disciplines, lexicography and lexicology. Develop a subject for the paper.

At the beginning, the docent will introduce the most important monuments of lexicography of the German language and introduce in the methods of research in lexicology. In the second phase, the students will learn to evaluate and compare different lexicons. In the third phase, the students individually choose an online or a print-dictionary or lexicon which is presented and evaluated. In the forth phase, the subject of the individual paper is developed, presented to the group, discussed and advanced. The teacher and the student stay in contact during the writing process of the essay.
