 Participants will revise their knowledge of  theories and research methods within linguistic analysis, including both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Through critical assessment of state-of-the-art studies, participants will acquire competencies so to engage critically in their own research.

The relation between theories and methods in linguistics is subject to continuous changes and re-elaboration. The course will provide input on these developments through common readings and reflections, as well as the consideration of the limitations of different methods and possible strategies to overcome them.

Guided revision of theories, group readings, presentations, discussions of individual examples, development of methodological suggestions.

Elements for evaluation will be: attendance, participation in discussions and literature reviews. Mid-term and final written assignments with open questions.
